i see chillaxin' in my future...

Finally, things are starting to settle into a nice equalibrium.  I'm noticing that my body is just tired, like down to my bones.  I've been pushing way too hard.  I mean, I'm not complaining, but I'm very aware at the moment how much I need to relax a bit.  So the next few weeks, intersperced with all my transitioning work, I'm going to take some time for me - get a massage, eat some sushi, etc.  Its much needed....

general update

*in the Dr. Membrane voice* Life is INSANE right now!

I'm working on a couple video projects after work hours, I'm filming "Running in Place" (which was off to a rough start, but is turning out fabulous), of course, there's my 9-5 job, and to top it off, I'm moving this month to a new house.  To say the least, I'm overwhelmed.

But I can't complain.  Because this lifestyle, despite the fact that it may kill be me early on, is better than not doing anything.  Although, not doing anything has its place, its not for me right now.  The ball is rolling, and like Indiana Jones, I'm trying not to get crushed by it.

So, I hope everyone understands if I'm being distant, or not around as much.

But, life is good!  Don't want to leave anyone with the wrong impression either.  Things are really going good.

storyboarding...

Well, just working on storyboards.  They're coming along nicely.  This movie is going to be so cool, I can't wait to show it off to everyone.  I'm really excited.  We've got all our locations locked down, and we're pretty much crewed up.  We're still tentatively looking for a director of photography, electrician, costumer, and a hair/makeup person; although we have people in mind for these positions.

On a completely unrelated note:

Found a really cool tool for those of you out there that are interested in starting an ezine or something similar: phplist.  Its a mailing list manager, packed with features and the best part is its free.

it's official!

Fishhook Films is officially open for business!  That's the cooperation between myself and Josh Klein, and the banner under which Running in Place will be shot.  No website yet, but it'll be up soon enough.  The official email address is fishhookfilms@yahoo.com.  This is very exciting!

Still uploading pictures from Holland....

I'm running in place myself...

...Or at least totally ragged. ;P

Production is coming along great! We've got the principal parts cast and most of the crew and additional cast lined up. We'll be making an official announcement soon as to who is on board. We're also very close to getting the SAG contract squared away. Originally this was supposed to be a small project, what the heck happened? (Don't read that the wrong way! I'm totally grateful and excited!!)

I'm still working on getting my Holland pictures up. I have quite a few more up on zooomr, but here's one I'm quite pleased with:

I'll post an entry describing my trip before too long, but in the mean time just go check out http://beta.zooomr.com/photos/jsallach

Sheep in the City

Ok.  So, over the last few days, I've been mostly trying to acclimate to the timezone and to the culture.  I'm picking up a lot of dutch.  Tim (Sheri's fiance)'s parents say that I have a talen knobel - a language knob.  So, that's cool.

We've been taking a lot of walks and I've been down to the market and such.  Its such a great culture.  It feels a lot like where I grew up, in Pennsylvania, just with older buildings and a different language.  I got some great pics of architecture i want to share, but I really need to go through them, and i don't want to do a whole lot of that right at the moment (its a bit late, and I'm going with Sheri's stepdaughter's school in the morning to a play).  I'll prolly upload most of that when i get home.  But in the meantime, I wanted to offer the strange sight of the day:  A sheep in the middle of the park in the middle of the city.  Only in Nederland.

First day in the Netherlands

Ok. I'm safe in the Netherlands (Nederland). It was a long trip as to be expected. Got laid over in Houston, which took longer than expected. We were delayed by about an hour.
Finally got in the air. The movie selection was crap, so I spent my time reading, and studying dutch. I got about four hours of sleep and have forced myself to stay up since then. I've now been up for about twenty four hours now, minus the four I slept on the plain. Here's a pic:

Headshots

So, this is really cool. I've been getting a lot of gigs lately for photography. Here's a sampling of some headshots I took last weekend. I'm not entirely pleased with them. They're a bit grainy, I had the ISO set to 1600 'cause I was hiding in some shadows to avoid the harsh noon sunlight and using a telephoto lens with an fstop of 4.6.

Also got a wedding gig coming up this summer. Its really great. This camera is paying for itself. ;P

Trip to the Nederlands

So, I'm heading off to the Nederlands on March 23rd for [info]ninthphoenix's wedding.  I'm going to be blogging the trip and uploading the cool pictures that I'll be taking there, so stay tuned.

"Running in Place"

I'm directing a short film next month called "Running in Place"  I'm so excited.  We got all kinds of stuff coming together for it (tons of auditions) and a stellar crew.  I'll be getting a webpage up really soon on the nrpro.com site (like this weekend) so come by  and check it out.  If you're interested in being a part of this, either trying out for a part or working on the crew, drop me a line at our production email account runninginplaceshort@yahoo.com

Cheers!
Joshua

Plot summary: Harold Burnham, a passive recluse, who seldom strays outside the comfort zone of his hobby store for miniature replicas, finds himself at a crossroads when his overbearing sister “asks” for his help in fathering a child with her lesbian lover. Through a series of strange events, Harold is forced to examine his life choices and decide whether he wants to continue on his lonely path or pop the comfortable bubble in which he lives.

“Running in Place” is a dark comedy drama set in the present day, peppered with flashbacks of Harold’s childhood, to provide explanation of his timid nature and preference for solitude. As we come to meet the
colorful members of his family and observe his lifestyle, we’ll understand his feelings of resentment, and sympathize with his awkward situation, longing for him to make a change.

New Website!

Well, I'm proud to announce that I actually updated my website!

Joshua Sallach - Narrow Road Productions
http://www.nrpro.com/

Its definitely a work in progress, but at least its in progress again. I figured with all the gigs I've been getting lately and all the projects that are coming up, I should start getting more active with the most central and publicly accessible marketing tool I have: my site.

Plans:
I'm going to start blogging consistently. I found a program, crosspost, which posts to a multitude of blogging websites, such as livejournal and blogger. I've been inspired by the sprint we just did, which aired on KOBTV (the "b-roll" was done by yours truly and [info]moonsail), whose whole point was to show that we have plenty of talent in New Mexico and don't need to go anywhere else to get it.  So, I would like to start pushing for the stuff that's going on here!

Offer your suggestions/comments as you see fit.  Just remember - work in progress!

Welcome to the new journal...

Yes, yes. Its me. If you can believe it. And this is my photo/film/coolness journal. This is where I'll be posting my cool new pictures from zooomr.com, my short films (which are mostly on youtube), and any other cool things worthy of my attention (and possibly even yours!).
